A safe, private and supportive environment for in-person and telehealth counseling in Northern Michigan.
What to Expect
1
Call or text us at 231-884-0028. You will most likely have to leave a message. Share with us your name, contact info, what you want counseling for, and when you are available. One of our office staff will call you back, have you download the Spruce app, and begin the paperwork process.
2
For the paperwork process you will need your insurance card and identification to start. You can do all of the paperwork online, and it involves identifying your emergency contact and filling out questionnaires so we know how to help you best.
3
Your counselor will reach out to you through the Spruce app to set up an appointment that works in both of your schedules. You'll want to make sure you have your notifications on for Spruce.
4
On the first session your counselor will ask a lot of questions to get to know you and what you are dealing with. The more honest you can be, the better your experience will be. This is also an opportunity for you to see if the counselor is a good fit for you.
5
If you like your counselor you will continue meeting, usually weekly or evey other week. If you don't feel it's a good fit, you can request a different counselor, either from them or from the office.
6
Meet with your counselor regularly until you have resolved the issues you want to deal with. Our goal is for you to be healthy and well, and when you have processed and learned what you need for that to be true, the counseling relationship will end.
Fee for Services
The fee for a 50 minute session of individual, couple, or family therapy is $170. If we have a group available which would meet your needs the group fee is $40 per group session. We do accept most insurances (see below) as payment, if you desire and if mental health services are covered. Most insurances require that you meet your deductable or have a copay just as if you were seeing another healthcare professional. We have a sliding fee scale for private pay based on income. You are welcome to discuss this when you contact us.
Insurance
If you choose to use insurance our office manager can confirm whether Paddock Counseling can bill your insurance company and you must confirm your coverage of behavioral health. If you choose to use insurance you should be aware that:
-
Many insurance companies pay for only a certain number of sessions. While you can continue counseling beyond that time, you will be responsible for the fees.
-
Insurance companies have policy guidelines for treatment which will guide the interventions used and the length of treatment.
-
Your insurance company will require us to send them information regarding your sessions, limiting your confidentiality.
-
Most insurance companies require that a diagnosis be made from the Diagnostical and Statistical Manual 5th edition (DSM-5), which will become part of your health record.
-
Your insurance company may require us to coordinate care with your Primary Care Physician, limiting your confidentiality.
-
You are responsible to pay the full rate we have contracted with your insurance company until your deductible is met (if applicable). You are responsible for knowing what your deductible is and if it has been met.
-
You are responsible for knowing your copay for mental health services, if applicable.
-
Not all insurances will allow billing by interns. If you are seeing an intern, our office staff will let you know if you can use insurance. If you cannot, a sliding scale fee may be available.
We accept the following insurances:
Aetna
Blue Care Network/Blue Cross Blue Shield
Magellen
McLaren
Molina
Priority Health
Tricare
United Healthcare
Missed Appointments
Your appointment time is reserved for you alone. If you need to cancel or reschedule please give your counselor 24 hours notice. If you do not give sufficient notice or do not show, Paddock Counseling reserves the right to charge you for the missed appointment. Payment for missed sessions will be your personal responsibility - your insurance company cannot be billed. If you are unable to attend an in-person session and would like to switch to a telehealth session, this can be easily accomplished through the Spruce app, and your counselor can coordinate that with sufficient notice.
