Frequently Asked Questions

If you are new to counseling, you probably have a lot of questions. This page is for you. If you have more questions, please reach out to us. We want you to feel comfortable before you even get here!

What does counseling look like?

Usually sessions are 50 to 60 minutes long. The frequency of sessions will be decided between you and  your counselor. The first session is a time to get to know you, and will involve lots of questions which will help your counselor understand you and your struggles better. You don't have to answer anything you don't want to, although the more honest and open you are, the more your counselor can help. After that first session, the counselor will serve more as a guide, helping you process and understand your experiences and your difficulties.

What are some factors for success?

Perhaps the biggest factor for success is your connection with your counselor.  If you feel safe enough to open up about the difficulties in your life, you will often find healing comes from within.  Feeling heard, understood and accepted helps you explore your concerns and find solutions.  Attending your appointments regularly and using the skills and strategies you learn in your day to day life are excellent keys to success.  Letting us know when you get stuck or feel we are not helping will enhance your progress.
